‘Tis the Season for Self-Care!

Oh, Holidays. What a magical time of the year. Spending time with your loved ones, holiday parties, baking, the list could go on and on.

But holidays can also bring up that dreaded question, “When are you going to have a baby?” Or if you’re struggling with secondary infertility, “When are you going to have more kids?” And the “happy” can easily disappear from the “holidays.”

If you’ve ever been in that situation, we know it can be tough. Self-care seems like such a simple concept, but the reality is that practicing self-care doesn’t come easily. We know everyone has a list for everything online, but here are five ways that some of us here at Hanabusa IVF have used to practice self-care in the past:

1. Sipping on hot tea while reading a good book:

Step away from your computer and grab a book you bought a few months back and find a quiet space and dive in.

2. Take a walk:

Even if it’s only five minutes and cold outside, bundle up and go. There’s truly nothing like taking a deep breath of fresh air.

3. Take a nap:

We have so many things going on during the holidays such as extra commitments or work deadlines. Take 20 extra minutes out of your day for a nap. That 20 minutes will go a long way.

4. Write in a journal:

The holidays are a joyous time, but it also brings many mixed emotions. We may feel sadness, anger, exhaustion, and anxiety. Instead of bottling it all up or possibly taking it out on others, write it down. Write about how you feel to express your emotions. This will help clear your mind and you can continue with your day.

5. Eat your greens:

I know I know, it’s the holidays. Our houses are filled with treats, baked goods, and hearty meals, but eating junk food can deplete our energy. Add greens to every meal, and add some protein to your breakfast, you’ll feel much more energized and ready to take on the day.
