Sheila Kubota, MSW, LCSW, PMH-C is a biracial, bicultural licensed clinical social worker (LCSW #74356) in the state of California and a certified perinatal mental health specialist (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International. She has worked in the field since 2008, spending most of her career in medical social work at a high-volume women’s hospital (with the most babies delivered in all of California) and a large pediatric hospital, both as a frontline social worker and in leadership supervising other clinicians.
Throughout her career, Sheila has walked alongside individuals and families facing infertility, IVF treatments, surrogacy, high-risk pregnancies, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, NICU admissions, ICU stays for both mother and baby, infant loss, medically complex diagnoses, and a wide range of perinatal mental health conditions.
She now feels privileged to bring this depth of experience into her private practice, working directly with clients navigating perinatal and parenting challenges. Sheila’s specialty trauma modality is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based treatment that can resolve certain traumas in as few as 1–3 sessions and has been especially effective for birth trauma and grief and loss. She draws on additional therapeutic approaches as needed, tailoring her work to each client’s unique history, presentation, and goals.
In addition to her therapy practice, Sheila is an instructor at the New Mom School in Liberty Station, San Diego. She is also proud to serve on the board of Sister League of San Diego, a nonprofit providing stable housing and support to women in recovery, where she leads support groups for residents and offers mental health consultation for the agency’s programs.
